Mentoring is fun
My kids:
People ask me all the time if I like kids or if I want to have kids and I'm pretty sure I don't . I've been teaching kids for years and that's all I need. But there is a great feeling imparting my knowledge to others.
At work I manage a team of people that I get to train and mold everyday but I'm starting to work with some great music students that depend on me for guidance in their budding musical careers.
I've been teaching music for 16 years and I've been working for 15 years. I may never have kids of my own but I do have a lot of love to give. I give this to my family via nephews and cousins. I do feel sometimes I wish I could be there for some of the bigger, special moments and to be able be a role model to them. They look up to me and that means I must continue to lead by example.
In toastmasters I get to mentor up and coming speakers and leaders which is also very rewarding. There are many ways to mentor and its something I think everyone should do. You could be the person that the next great leader says helped them or inspired them.
