After being on a 4 day vacation, the day today started with a bang. Had an intense isometric exercise, followed by protein shake and then off to work. Catching up on emails is always a chore, and dealing with angry customers who have had days to exponentially increase their rate of explosion and needing to speak with a manager.
Reading the One Minute Manager yesterday I have learned some key insights that I think will help me better lead my team. There are 3 platitudes: Goal setting, Praise, and Reprimand. I think it is always good to set clearly defined goals as I expand my team I need to better define these goals with them, as well as make goals for myself.
Praise and feedback are always needed. I try my best to catch them doing something right. Often. But I know I lack telling them when they have done something not right. I need to be better at explaining that so that they can course correct earlier.
My main take away is that you must be people-oriented and results oriented to be a thriving department/business.
I look forward to bringing a lot of knowledge and change into 2016 at work and beyond.
