"(Progressing) is learning to rise from our falls , overcome our mistakes and face hurt in a way that brings more wisdom and wholeheartedness." - Brene Brown "Rising Strong"
I love Brene Brown. I've watched her Ted Talks and read her books. I even hear she has a free live stream coming up for the Emerging Women conference, so I'm very excited to hear that this week.
I feel being raised by strong woman and coming from my upbringing, the things woman struggle with resonate with me. I know what it's like to have a negative self image; to sacrifice myself for the sake of relationships, even negative ones, and to be good to everyone but myself!
Her research is shame and vulnerability are ground breaking and I love that she's not afraid to be a "hot mess" in public.
You will make mistakes, you will fall and it will hurt; but you will learn if you choose too or you can wallow in your misfortune.
As I still struggle through adult life: carving out multiple careers; music, speeches, leadership projects, volunteer work, and helping friends and family, I fail all the time, but I fail forward.
Donnie Mclurklin , sang it best when he sang, "We fall down, but we get up!" The scripture says a man will fall many times but will rise again.
Maya Angelou , who went through much adversity still proclaimed, "Still I rise!"
Just cause you fall off the wagon, that's OK. A baby learning to crawl or a kid learning to ride a bike falls many times but eventually they get the hang of it.
Exercise your resilience muscle. And when you need a friend to pick you up and dust you off I believe someone will be there for you.
Like James Brown said "Get up. Get on up!" You're one step closer to being a little more wise and a little more whole!
