When I saw the toastmasters world champion of public speaking give his seminar the other day he mentioned something interesting. He said that making his winning speech took over 10 years, and that he learned from all his failures.
I've been working on making music in Los Angeles for over 12 years now and I can't say it has been easy, but to get to the point I am with my new album coming out it took 12 years. The Gospel According to Cliff Beach started in 2006 with writing the first song, materialized in 2012 when the idea of the concept came to, then finally after multiple false starts I finally started recording it in 2014 and it has taken a year to complete.
Once it is done that is only the beginning. Now we must establish a team, shop to labels and eventually release and promote the record.
It is a culmination of all my experiences that led me to the point I am now in the same way it took the world champion to make his speech.
He also stated he never repeats a speech, in the same way Martin Luther king would never repeat the I Have A Drean speech; the speech is meant for. Purpose and is time stamped. With more experience , even in minutes or days you would change and thus the speech would be different. 10 years from now this album would be different for me. The songs have changed over the years as I have changed and grown and matured and evolved with them.
No one is an overnight sensation. You can be an overnight one hit wonder maybe, but if you want staying power; longevity, that takes years to achieve.
